Waqf Amendment Act Live Updates: The Supreme Court is set to hear a batch of five petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the Waqf (Amendment) Act. This comes weeks after the government put on hold two key provisions of the law following tough questions from the top court. On April 17, the Centre assured the top court that it would not denotify waqf properties, including those classified as 'waqf by user', nor make any appointments to the Central Waqf Council and state boards until May 5. The Centre had earlier opposed the top court's suggestion of passing an interim order to halt the denotification of waqf properties and to stay the provision allowing non-Muslims to be included in the Central Waqf Council and state boards. The Supreme Court then granted a week's time to the Centre to file a preliminary response to the pleas challenging the validity of the law and posted the matter on May 5.
