Domestically, passenger car sales grew 13.6% in December, partly due to trade-in incentives, bringing total sales for the year to 22.6 million, up 3.1%. However, sales of traditional gasoline and diesel cars dropped 17%, from 14 million to 11.6 million, accounting for 51% of the total market.
