China reports a novel virus from 252 patients infected by tick bites

RT-PCR analysis of serum samples from 792 participants, collected between May and July from 2022 to 2024 identified 26 patients infected with Xue-Cheng Virus (XCV). Phylogenetic analysis revealed that four tick-derived XCV genomes closely matched human-derived genomes, suggesting this emerging tickborne orthonairovirus species is a potential cause of febrile illness.
