Teen sensation Tanvi Sharma creates history with Taipei Open title

At just 17 years and 222 days, Tanvi surpassed the legendary Tai Tzu Ying’s mark to enter into the tournament’s record books. The triumph also ended India’s 17-year wait for a women’s singles title at the Taipei Open. Tanvi became only the second Indian after Saina Nehwal, who lifted the trophy in 2008, to win the event. Overall, it was India’s third Taipei Open title after Jwala Gutta and V Diju won the mixed doubles crown in 2009.
