CBSE to introduce third language option in Class 6 from 2026-27 session under NEP 2020

The Central Board of Secondary Education will introduce a third language option in Class 6 in line with NEP 2020. Students will study three languages, with at least two required to be Indian languages. English and other foreign languages will be treated as foreign options but cannot replace the two-Indian-language requirement. The National Curriculum Framework for School Education 2023 recommends continuing all three languages till Class 10, with new textbooks planned for the 2026-27 session.
