BJP's Ram Shinde elected as Maharashtra legislative council chairperson
BJP's Ram Shinde was elected unopposed as chairperson of the Maharashtra legislative council, filling a post vacant since July 2022. With this, BJP holds presiding officer roles in both legislative houses. Shinde, a former minister, joined the Upper House in July 2022 after narrowly losing the Karjat-Jamkhed assembly seat to NCP's Rohit Pawar.
