Bengal polls: CM Mamata Banerjee announces Rs 10,000 crore DA arrears, hike for purohits, muezzins
Just before the election code of conduct took effect, West Bengal's Chief Minister announced a Rs 10,000 crore DA arrears payment to state employees and pensioners, starting March 2026. Additionally, monthly honorariums for priests and muezzins were raised by Rs 500 to Rs 2,000. The Election Commission stated these policy decisions did not violate the code.
